Mother, First Lady, Style Icon, Trailblazer, Patron of the Arts barely scratch the surface when describing Jackie. On what would have been her 89th birthday, here is a collection of photos celebrating her life and a legacy that remains strong.
Despite my TBR list being a few miles long, I’m always on the hunt for book recommendations. Recently, I found this feature on the NYPL website where you fill out a small questionnaire and a librarian will respond with 3 book recommendations within 3 business days. P.S. I got mine back within the hour when I submitted during the week.
I asked for books with complex and well-written characters and I chose Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi as a book I recently enjoyed. Here are the recommendations I received:
Heart Berries by Terese Marie Mailhot
The Sparsholt Affair by Allan Hollinghurst
An American Marriage by Tayari Jones
Happy Reading! #whenindoubtgotothelibrary
I’m pretty much obsessed with ’50’s & ’60’s fashion. I feel like Kate Spade is as close as one can get to the classic yet whimsical style of the period. Plus her love of bows, stripes and gingham is something I hold very dear to my heart.
Having said that, I’m also on a budget. If I had the money, here are my picks:
Olive Drive Straw Brigette Bag
Seersucker Concealed Spiral Notebook
Hyde Lane Gingham Michelle Wallet
The Kate Spade New York’s Friends & Family Sale is on now, and you can get 30% off of most items with the code, FAMILY at checkout.
Many think of January 1st as New Year’s Day, but if you’re like me it means the start of awards season. Every other weekend brings yet another red carpet. This has been a very difficult year for Hollywood in the wake of the Weinstein scandal, but it did give rise to the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements encouraging and empowering all women and men to stop the culture of sexual assault and harassment, especially in the workplace.
As the season ends on Oscar Sunday, let’s look back at the highlights of this year’s red carpet.
Yara Shahidi in Giambatitsta Valli
Sarah Hyland in Naeem Khan
Tracee Ellis Ross in Ralph & Russo
Kimiko Glenn in Peter Langner
Issa Rae in Prabal Gurung
Jackie Cruz in Rami Kadi
Zoe Kravitz in Saint Laurent
Natalia Dyer in Dior
Susan Kelechi Watson in Rubin Singer
Madeline Brewer in Reem Acra
The Oscars are on Sunday at 8pm ET on ABC, but they will have red carpet coverage starting at 6:30pm ET.
In the past I’ve spent way too much money on skincare and cosmetics. Yes, sometimes it’s good to splurge and some high end products are worth the hype, but I’m on a budget and determined to stick to it. Luckily my new office is above a Duane Reade, so I basically live there now. Here are my top 3 purchases from this month:
I have a combination skin, so in the winter I have trouble finding a foundation. For some reason I seem to get a dry patch right between my eyebrows. This is a gel-whipped foundation so it feels very light on, but covers beautifully. I would say it’s medium to full coverage, stays on all day, and I’m happy to report no dry patches.
2. Simple Micellar Cleansing Water
I’ll admit, I’m late to the game with the whole micellar water trend, but I’m glad I finally arrived. I’m using this as a toner and it gets every last bit of makeup off, and I’ve already noticed a difference in the size of my pores. I hear micellar water will be in shampoos now, so I can’t wait to try those, too!
3. Burt’s Bees Lipstick in Magenta Rush
Even though I love my Nars lip pencils, I have no control when it comes to lipstick. I must try every and all brands. I picked up Burt’s Bees Lipstick in Magenta Rush, and this has to be one of my top five lipsticks. It is so moisturizing and the color is so beautiful. I was a little worried about the name, Magenta Rush, thinking it would be too harsh, but it’s a good mix of hot pink and purple and I feel it would suit a lot of skin tones.
What are some of your favorite drugstore buys?
With all the depressing news over the past year, like most people I’ve turned to television and/or books to escape. As a die hard Gilmore Girls fan, I was counting down the days until the premiere of Amy Sherman-Palladino‘s new series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and she did not disappoint! Miriam “Midge” Maisel, played by Rachel Brosnahan, is so inspiring and just what we need to cope amidst the #TimesUp and #MeToo movements.
Set in New York City in 1958, Midge’s life is turned upside down when her husband leaves her and their two kids. She goes from housewife to working girl and aspiring stand-up comedian, relying on her sense of humor, confidence, style, and tenacity to make her way in a world and industry dominated by men.
If you don’t already know, I’m obsessed with the clothing from the ’50s & ’60’s, so the costumes on this show give me so much joy. I’m hoping Amazon teams up with a clothing line in time for the Season 2 premiere. Fingers crossed.
Here are my Top 10 dresses inspired by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and they are all under $200! Enjoy!

This is it. We have reached the final day of Dress-tivus, the 1st annual 31 day celebration of designer dresses to help inspire your holiday party ensembles. Thank you so much for putting up with me through all of this. Daily blogging is no joke. Much respect to those who do this every day.
For my final dress, I wanted to choose one that said, “Peace out, 2017. I’m over you. I’ve met someone else. Don’t call. Don’t text,” and I feel this Oscar De La Renta dress fits the bill. At first glance, I thought the material was leather, but it’s actually 100% silk. Is it just me, or does the bodice have a Wonder Woman-like quality to it? Overall, I like how it straddles the line between badass and classy just like. . .Wonder Woman!
Happy New Year! Be safe! 2018 is going to be amazing!
The penultimate day of Dress-tivus! Two more dresses and one more day until we get to kiss this year goodbye. I hope everyone is enjoying their time off and getting some much needed rest.
Today’s pick from Parker Black has a lot going on! There’s beading, sequins, fringe, and ostrich feathers! That’s right. I said ostrich feathers! I don’t think you could stop me from shimmying all night in this dress. LOVE!
The final 3 days of Dress-tivus, your favorite celebration of dresses to help inspire your holiday party outfits! Honestly, I don’t know how anyone is going out on Sunday. It has been so bitterly cold this past week. I came home 2 hours ago and I still can’t get warm! As I write this, I have a fleece shirt under a onesie and a wool blanket over my lap.
However, if you don’t mind the arctic chill and still plan on venturing out for NYE, good for you. I’m loving today’s pick from Jenny Packham. It somehow manages to look both Art Deco and Studio 54 at the same time. That is impressive. Plus the color is gorgeous!
