Before You Watch the Oscars on Sunday, Revisit the Best of the Awards Season Red Carpet

Many think of January 1st as New Year’s Day, but if you’re like me it means the start of awards season. Every other weekend brings yet another red carpet. This has been a very difficult year for Hollywood in the wake of the Weinstein scandal, but it did give rise to the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements encouraging and empowering all women and men to stop the culture of sexual assault and harassment, especially in the workplace.

As the season ends on Oscar Sunday, let’s look back at the highlights of this year’s red carpet.

Top 10 Dresses Inspired By The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel All Under $200

With all the depressing news over the past year, like most people I’ve turned to television and/or books to escape. As a die hard Gilmore Girls fan, I was counting down the days until the premiere of Amy Sherman-Palladino‘s new series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and she did not disappoint! Miriam “Midge” Maisel, played by Rachel Brosnahan, is so inspiring and just what we need to cope amidst the #TimesUp and #MeToo movements.

Set in New York City in 1958, Midge’s life is turned upside down when her husband leaves her and their two kids. She goes from housewife to working girl and aspiring stand-up comedian, relying on her sense of humor, confidence, style, and tenacity to make her way in a world and industry dominated by men.

If you don’t already know, I’m obsessed with the clothing from the ’50s & ’60’s, so the costumes on this show give me so much joy. I’m hoping Amazon teams up with a clothing line in time for the Season 2 premiere. Fingers crossed.

Here are my Top 10 dresses inspired by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and they are all under $200! Enjoy!

Madewell is Channeling Season One of Felicity, and I Couldn’t Be Happier!

I’ve always been drawn to Madewell. They have the best jeans, comfy sweaters, and quality leather bags and shoes. Recently I was scrolling through their website and found this gem. . .

Madewell Lorimer Backpack

Eureka! The reason I love Madewell is because it’s basically Felicity Porter’s wardrobe from Season 1 of Felicity. The endless supply of oversized sweaters, the leather backpack, the whole tomboy chic look – how did I not realize this sooner?!

For those of you who don’t know, Felicity was a show on The WB, now the CW, from 1998-2002. In short, Felicity (Keri Russell) scraps her plans to attend Stanford and follows her longtime high school crush, Ben (Scott Speedman), to a fictional NYC university. As you can imagine, things don’t go smoothly for these crazy kids. Enter Noel, (Scott Foley), her RA, who develops feelings for Felicity, henceforth giving us arguably one of the best love triangles in modern television history.  #noelforlife

Since my college experience wasn’t remotely as eventful as Felicity’s, I lived vicariously through her, envying her love life, while admiring those cozy, bulky sweaters that seemed to wrap up her and her insecurities in a big hug. Also, that hair of hers – STUNNING! While I preferred my Jansport backpack at the time, I’m making up for it by regularly using my Madewell Transport Leather Tote in that beautiful English Saddle color.

Here are my Top 11 Felicity Picks from Madewell that will make you want to binge Season 1 all over again.

Suck it, Ben!

I Met My Dream TV Mom!!!!

I love my Mom and no one can replace her. Having said that, if my Mom ever wants to go vacation or take some well-deserved “me time,” I would choose Sela Ward as her proxy.

She played Teddy, the cool mom, in Sistersand then newly divorced mom, Lily Manning, in Once & Again, navigating the single life while raising two daughters and re-entering the workforce. The dreamy, Billy Campbell aka The Rocketeer, played her boyfriend and later, husband. The fact that the third and final season of this show is not available on DVD is a travesty! ABC should expect a strongly worded e-mail from me shortly.

Anywho, I got a last minute invite to attend a TV Guide party celebrating her recent cover, and pounced on the opportunity. Initially, I was hesitant to meet her because I didn’t want to embarrass myself, but my boss was able to introduce us. It was everything I thought it would be and more! She was super nice and engaging, and still has that signature Southern charm and looked flawless!

I would love to see her in more roles, but in the meantime, you can catch her in Graves on EPIX, which has its Season 2 premiere on Sunday, October 22nd at 10pm.

In case you were wondering, I would want Mark Harmon as my Stand-In Dad.

Dreams can come true, folks.

Riverdale’s Fashion Queen, Veronica Lodge

I don’t think I can properly explain my love for The CW’s, Riverdale. I know! Don’t judge me. I am a grown ass woman, yet I can’t stop thinking about fan theories and potential storylines of fictional teenagers? Last season my friend, Kevin and I would text during every single episode dissecting every longing glance between Betty and Archie, or yelling at the screen whenever Miss Grundy appeared. Don’t even get me started on her!

Yet, in my opinion I feel it’s the fashion that ties the show together. The clean lines and tailored looks pay homage to the beloved comics that date back to the 1940’s, while serving as a stark contrast to the seedy underbelly of the town and its people. Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) is an excellent example of this. The moment she walked into the Chock’lit Shoppe in that hooded cape, I was hooked.

Here are some of Veronica’s signature looks from Season 1:

I want one for each day of the week!

Veronica and Betty in their River Vixen practice uniforms. Yes, I laughed at the name, River Vixens, but I secretly want to be one. If you look closely you can see that Veronica wears her pearls with everything! Love that!

As you know, I love plaid, like a lot. I found out this outfit was from Brooks Brothers, but it had sold out. I still cry about it.

Veronica silently judging her fellow classmates’ taste while looking flawless in this black lace number.

She does tend to wear black a lot, so I like when she adds some color to her wardrobe, like with this magenta fit and flare dress.

Veronica mixing it up again with a patterned skirt, and a different pearl necklace.

I think this is one of my favorite episodes/scene when Veronica comes to terms with her Dad’s criminal past.  Again, plaid and those pearls! Yes, please!

I can’t wait for the Riverdale Season 2 premiere on Wednesday, October 11th @ 8p on the CW.  If you need to catch up, you can watch all of Season 1 on Netflix.
