Many think of January 1st as New Year’s Day, but if you’re like me it means the start of awards season. Every other weekend brings yet another red carpet. This has been a very difficult year for Hollywood in the wake of the Weinstein scandal, but it did give rise to the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements encouraging and empowering all women and men to stop the culture of sexual assault and harassment, especially in the workplace.
As the season ends on Oscar Sunday, let’s look back at the highlights of this year’s red carpet.
Yara Shahidi in Giambatitsta Valli
Sarah Hyland in Naeem Khan
Tracee Ellis Ross in Ralph & Russo
Kimiko Glenn in Peter Langner
Issa Rae in Prabal Gurung
Jackie Cruz in Rami Kadi
Zoe Kravitz in Saint Laurent
Natalia Dyer in Dior
Susan Kelechi Watson in Rubin Singer
Madeline Brewer in Reem Acra
The Oscars are on Sunday at 8pm ET on ABC, but they will have red carpet coverage starting at 6:30pm ET.
Happy Dress-tivus For the Rest of Us! For the month of December, I’m going to feature one designer dress a day providing inspiration for your upcoming holiday parties, or if you’re anything like me, the dresses I would wear to my fancy dress balls in my far more exciting inner life.
Kicking off the First Day of Dress-tivus is this Carolina Herrera Off the Shoulder High Low Gown.
See you tomorrow!
It all started with a homework assignment. We had to choose a historical figure, dress up as said historical figure, write and present a book report to the class. I remember going to the library that evening after school with my mom to select a biography. I’m pretty sure I picked it out, but I do remember the picture of a little girl and a horse that got my attention.
I saw that Jackie had dark hair like me and I liked horses enough. My Mom sealed the deal when she mentioned how Jackie looked like her mom. I worship my Grandma, so SOLD! Jackie, it is. A few weeks later, I wore my mom’s red blazer, some leggings, and tall boots capturing Jackie’s equestrian look, and read my book report to a room of unimpressed 10-year-olds. Kids, am I right?
Sadly, just a few years later she would pass away at age 64 from cancer. I remember my Dad got me a commemorative issue of Star Magazine filled with pictures of her that I still have to this day. Anytime I see a Vanity Fair, People, TIME issue celebrating Jackie or John F. Kennedy’s life, there is no hesitation – I must own it. That tabloid was my gateway drug to all things Kennedy.
To me and so many others, Jackie is the epitome of grace, glamour, and strength. Her style is somehow classic and unique at the same time, and I plan on copying it for the rest of my life.
Here are some of favorite pictures of Jackie through the years:
I love Fall! It’s my favorite season. It means sweater weather, peacoats, obnoxious pumpkin flavored items that should never have seen the light of day, and the start of college basketball. However, my favorite thing about Fall are the clothes. I’m on a tight budget, so here are my J.Crew picks for Fall if I had the money.
The 1984 rugby shirt in stripe
*SPOILER ALERT: I bought this one
I actually screamed when I saw this shirt. I love a good rugby shirt. I don’t know what it is, but I can’t resist them. It’s part of J.Crew’s effort to bring back the beloved staples from the ’80’s. I was late to the game on ordering this shirt, and it was sold out. Good news, you can still order. I pre-ordered mine in navy peruvian pink, and it should ship by mid-December.
I love me some plaid. I just found out that I’m part Scottish, so that explains a lot. I would wear the crap out of this. It’s like an adult blankie.
J.Crew, you had me at sweater-blazer. Best of both worlds.
The name says it all. If I could have a dream uniform it would be a button down, jeans, and saddle shoes. That’s right, I said saddle shoes. They really need a comeback.
My uniform would also include a bow.
I don’t think I can pull these off. I feel like a pirate when I wear anything other than studs, but these are so cute!

Happy Fall and Happy Shopping!
